Prada Facade 5th Avenue
2026 - New York, NY
Design: 2×4
TM Light collaborated with Prada and design studio 2x4 to imbue a functional scaffolding with a lighting installation that speaks to the grand scale of the city as well as to the detailed filigree of a singular architecture.
The lighting works with a patterned fabric weave that covers the scaffolding designed by 2x4 that allows the building to undergo a ‘state change’ from day to night. During the day, the double layered fabric and its pattern create a monolithic surface that maintains a texture of moire. As the night approaches, a ghostly framework of glowing led lines appears. The lines express the scaffolding’s inherent depth, occupying the zone in which humans do their work for the sake of the brand’s construction.
In this, the project becomes a kind of “non-project project”, where the temporary framework of scaffolding which is meant to be an element of concealment becomes an element of display.
